FYNN'S  JOURNEY - Heading North is a 3D Side Scroller Game in which you play a little snowman called Fynn. The goal of the game is to get through the puzzling and dangerous world to the North Pole without melting.
This Game was produced by a team of various students from different study courses at the Media University Stuttgart from 2019 to 2020. With this project our aim was to create a finished game with an emotional impact while learning the software to create games, as this game was the first game project for most of us.
Besides the game we also created a digitally painted intro and outro for the games story, as well as a limited collectors edition. The collectors edition included a childrens book with the illustrations of the intro, an artbook, stickers, a hat with the printed logo and the game itself on a DVD.
Futhermore we 3D-printed Fynn at our University and sent him to the real North Pole with Poseidons Expeditions. Nowadays Fynn and a Collectors Edition are showcased at the Media University Stuttgart.

The game starts with a digitally painted intro about the creation of the snowman Fynn:
The intro intruduces us to William Duncan, a young little boy, who lives with his parents in a small town in Scottland. It shows William enjoying the day in the snow with his father and building a snowman whom he dresses with his scarf, gloves and his favourite pilot cap. In the evening, snuggled up at the fire place in the cozy living room, William tells his family about his day and calls the snowman Fynn. But then the radio announces that the temperatures will rise! William fears Fynn melting, but his mother ensures: Fynn will make it to the North Pole! In that night, Fynn magically becomes alive and leaves for his mission to get to the North Pole.

After the intro, the game starts in the garden of Williams home. As Fynn the snowman, you have to solve puzzles to get through the gardens to reach the city, in which you stumble into a building.
In and on the roofs, you make your way through the city yet when reaching the floor again, you stumble into the canalisation in a construction site.
In the end, you reach a small harbour with a boat, with which Fynn navigates to the North Pole.

The game ends how it began: With a digital painted outro. In the outro you can see the letterbox of the Duncans family. In the letterbox, Williams father finds a postcard from Fynn. It is from the North Pole!
Here the story of Fynn's Journey ends, as it becomes clear he has reached his destination.
Last but not least we dive into the postcard and get to see pictures of the 3D printed Fynn at the North Pole in real life followed by the game's credits.

The Collector's Edition has been made in cooperation with the study course "Packaging Technology" at the Media University Stuttgart.
Along with an uniquely designed package, it contains a childrens book with the illustrations of the intro, an artbook, stickers, a winter hat with the printed Fynn's Journey logo and the game itself on a DVD.
At the Media Night in February 2020 - an event where students present their projects to the public - visitors could win the collector's edition in a raffle near our gaming booth in the Media University.
